Trauma in Psychedelics
When we come into ceremony with plant medicine we often walk away feeling light and more aligned, but trauma can be perpetuated in this space too with inexperienced practitioners or uninformed participants. Veronica Lightning Horse Perez (spoke at our 2023 Psychedelic Symposium) will discuss ways we can avoid this scenario and how to best address it post ceremony. Brooks Barron, local to Carbondale, combines leadership coaching, wilderness guiding, and psychedelic guiding as founder of Starlight Leadership. He helps impact-driven leaders come fully alive and make their best contribution to the world from a place of alignment, presence and peace. Brooks typically supports leaders at a threshold moment in their lives — i.e. reached traditional success but craving something deeper, facing burnout/misalignment, and/or called to build a more beautiful world. His work builds a bridge between the practical and the mystical, connecting the healing, inspiration, and empowerment of altered states with an embodied awareness of one's unique gifts, and the opportunity to live a profoundly impactful and purposeful life.
Brooks has been working with cannabis as a psychedelic since 2021 and has found it to be one of the most potent and effective psychedelic medicines out there. He is credentialed as a Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Guide by The Center for Medicinal Mindfulness, certified as a 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership Coach by the Conscious Leadership Group, and has apprenticed as a vision quest guide with Animas Valley Institute. BIO: Alleged to have produced "90% of the world's LSD," William Leonard Pickard is a former drug policy fellow at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, research associate in neurobiology at Harvard Medical School, and deputy director of the Drug Policy Analysis Program at UCLA. With two life sentences without parole, he served 20 years in maximum security federal prisons, and was released in 2020.
His book "The Rose of Paracelsus" - written in pencil while imprisoned - was published by by Synergetic Press (Santa Fe/ London), and in Italian on April 26, 2023 by Mondadori (Milan). His 1996 prediction of the fentanyl epidemic, and recommendations for prevention, was confirmed by RAND. Currently he is a senior advisor, scientific advisory boards, of JLS Fund 2 LP and the Fireside Project.
